OUR UNIVERSITY

In 1946, one of Ankara’s long-cherished dreams finally came true. The faculties that had been established through the great efforts of the Republic of Türkiye were united under a single institution. On June 13, 1946, Ankara University was officially founded, built upon the principles and reforms of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk who is the founder of the Republic of Türkiye. Its mission was to maintain and spread these ideals through modern science, education, and enlightenment.

Ankara University is proud to be the first higher education university established both in the capital city and in the Republic of Türkiye. It is also the oldest and largest university in Ankara, and one of the most well-established and respected universities in the country. With a vision of becoming a globally recognized academic institution, Ankara University continues to grow and evolve.

Today, the university comprises 19 faculties, 14 graduate schools, 11 vocational school, a state conservatory, 43 research and application centers, and a college of foreign languages. It has about 4,000 academic staff and nearly 70,000 students. Education is delivered comprehensively across 15 major campuses located throughout Ankara. The vocational schools are primarily located in seven nearby districts: Ayaş, Beypazarı, Elmadağ, Haymana, Kalecik, Kızılcahamam, and Nallıhan. In total, Ankara University includes 36 campuses.
